vision

To provide returning military personnel with assistance securing entitled military benefits, and comprehensive support, including Integrative Wellness. The organization aims to offer a Central Facility and Distributed Housing, ensuring veterans have the resources and support needed to transition smoothly into civilian life. Additionally, Veterans Life USA focuses on matching veterans job skills with public sector opportunities, continuously monitoring and supporting them to ensure successful job retention and integration.

Our history 2006-2007

As our beloved military men and women were returning home in waves from both declared and undeclared wars, the realization that we as a society were ill prepared for their transition became obvious. Many returned home in various stages of mental, physical and financial despair with an unclear path to resolve the situation.

Here are some specific statistics and information to provide a clearer picture:

Mental Health

  • According to a 2008 report by the Rand Corporation, about 18.5% of U.S. service members who returned from Iraq or Afghanistan were suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression.
  • The Department of Defense's Mental Health Advisory Team (MHAT) IV report in 2006 noted increasing rates of mental health problems among deployed personnel, with approximately 15-20% experiencing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression.

Physical Injuries

  • The Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) reported that from 2006 to 2007, there were approximately 10,000 U.S. military personnel wounded in action in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of these injuries resulted in long-term physical disabilities.
  • Advances in medical treatment and battlefield care significantly increased survival rates, meaning more service members were returning home with severe injuries, including amputations and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

Financial Difficulties

  • Many returning veterans faced financial challenges due to difficulties transitioning to civilian employment, delays in receiving benefits, and other economic stressors.
  • A 2007 study by the Center for American Progress found that veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan had an unemployment rate higher than the national average, contributing to financial instability.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) faced significant backlogs in processing disability claims, leading to delays in financial support for many veterans.

Overall Impact

While specific numbers for those experiencing "mental, physical, and financial despair" are challenging to pinpoint precisely, the combination of these issues affected a substantial proportion of returning service members during this period. The efforts to address these challenges have involved various government and non-governmental organizations working to improve healthcare, support services, and economic opportunities for veterans. Veterans Life USA is situated to be a leader in addressing these challenges, for our heroes. "THE VETERANS TIME IS NOW. THEIR NEED IS GREAT. THE DEBT WE OWE THEM IS GREATER STILL." -MLB
